SOG Blog 56 Audio What has Stayed True as Life is Changing

Not everything changes at once.

Even during seasons when life feels unfamiliar, some things remain steady. They may take a different shape, but their meaning stays with us.

We may be approaching retirement or watching our responsibilities shift. Our children may be building lives of their own. Our bodies and energy may need more attention than they once did.

Much is changing. Yet when we pause, we may also notice what has stayed true.

Our Love for Family

The way we care for our families changes over time.

Our children may no longer need us to manage their schedules, solve every problem, or guide each decision. They may call less often than we would like or make choices we would not make for them.

But the love remains.

It becomes less about directing their lives and more about trusting them to live those lives. We learn to stand nearby without always stepping in. We remain available while respecting the space they need to grow.

Our place in the family may be changing, but our capacity to love has not disappeared. In many ways, it has deepened.

The Friends Who Remember Us

There is something comforting about an old friend.

She remembers who we were before the titles, responsibilities, losses, and lessons accumulated. She may remember a dream we once shared or the version of us who laughed more easily.

Longtime friendships do not always require constant contact. Life becomes busy, and months may pass between conversations. Still, when we reconnect, something familiar returns.

These friendships remind us that we have been many women across one lifetime. They hold pieces of our history and help us recognize ourselves while we are still becoming someone new.

The Faith That Holds Us Near

For many of us, faith becomes more important as we grow older.

We have lived long enough to understand that we cannot control every outcome or see everything waiting ahead. We have also lived long enough to remember the times we were carried through circumstances we did not know how to face.

Faith may not remove our questions. It gives us somewhere to bring them.

As we consider retirement, changing relationships, aging, and new possibilities, we may draw closer to what we believe. We become less interested in having every answer and more willing to trust the next step.

The future may remain uncertain, but we do not have to face it without hope.

The Curiosity That Still Lives Within Us

Growing older has not erased our desire to create, learn, or contribute.

We still have ideas and notice possibilities. We may want to write, paint, start a business, learn new technology, travel somewhere unfamiliar, or explore something we never had time to pursue.

The pace may be different now. That does not make the desire less real.

Creativity may even become richer because we have more life to draw from. We carry stories, experiences, and perspectives that we did not have twenty years ago.

We are not finished learning simply because we have reached a certain age. Curiosity still belongs to us.

What Remains True

What stays true does not always remain unchanged.

Love changes shape. Friendship finds a different rhythm. Faith grows through questions. Curiosity leads us toward unexpected interests.

Fall invites us to notice what has taken root. Before concentrating on what is ending or what might come next, we can look at what is already holding us steady.

Life may be changing.

But love remains. Friendship remains. Faith remains. Curiosity remains.

Somewhere within all that remains, we may find the steadiness we need for what comes next.

What has stayed true in your life, even as other things have changed?
