It's asking us to listen more closely.

For many years, we learned to push past what our bodies were trying to tell us.

We got up earlier.

Stayed up later.r

Drank another cup of coffee.

Checked one more thing off the list.

And somehow, we kept going.

So, when that approach no longer works, it's easy to assume something is wrong with us.

I don't think that's the whole story.

I think our bodies are asking us to pay attention in a way we never had to before.

After 50, many women begin to notice changes that seem to come out of nowhere.

We don't recover as quickly.

Sleep doesn't always leave us feeling rested.

The afternoon slump becomes harder to ignore.

Things that once felt easy suddenly require more energy.

Those changes can be frustrating.

They can also feel unsettling because we've spent so much of our lives trusting that if we worked harder, we'd eventually feel better.

Sometimes we do.

Sometimes we don't.

Perhaps that's because this season isn't asking us to work harder.

It's asking us to listen more closely.

Most of us were never taught to do that.

We were taught to meet our responsibilities, care for others, and keep moving forward.

We became skilled at overlooking our own needs because there was always something or someone that seemed more important.

Over time, we stopped noticing the quiet signals our bodies were sending.

Now those signals have become harder to ignore.

Instead of seeing them as interruptions, what if we began seeing them as invitations?

An invitation to rest before we're completely exhausted.

An invitation to notice which relationships, commitments, and routines restore us and which ones quietly drain us.

An invitation to ask ourselves a question we may not have asked in years.

What do I need today?

For many women, that isn't an easy question to answer.

We've become so practiced at caring for everyone else that caring for ourselves can feel unfamiliar.

But this season of life gives us an opportunity to begin again.

Not by becoming someone new.

By learning to understand ourselves more honestly than we ever have before.

Your body isn't working against you.

It may simply be asking you to slow down long enough to hear what it has been trying to say all along.

Because sometimes the path forward doesn't begin with pushing harder.

It begins with paying attention.

What is one change you've noticed in your body or your energy that you've only recently begun to take seriously? If you're comfortable, I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
